Saukonlaiturin vallissa näkyy laivaväen kirjoituksia, jotka ovat todennäköisesti yli 15 vuotta vanhoja. Kirjoitukset ovat tavallisimmin laivaväen omia nimiä tai laivojen nimiä. Nykyisin laivaväki ei juurikaan enää tee merkintöjä satamiin useasta eri syystä. Laivat viipyvät satamissa vain päivän tai kaksi, joten sellaiseen ei ole aikaa. Laivoja ei myöskään saa enää maalata satamissa, sillä myrkyllistä maalia saattaisi päätyä veteen.
